More cancer patients should receive biologic treatment in the future. The patent protection of original medicines has expired and Czech patients will receive less expensive reimbursements this year, which can save up to hundreds of millions of crowns. Financially expensive biological treatment, which is used to treat tumors or immune disorders, last year the Czech healthcare system cost about ten billion crowns. This year, the amount is expected to be about 1.5 billion higher.
Modern drugs made from living cells can cost up to millions of crowns a year for one patient. Therefore, they are prescribed only by specialized centers. Only the largest insurance company VZP already receives over 30,000 patients a year. It can improve or even correct the self-defense ability of the human body. Therefore, they are used, for example, to treat autoimmune diseases such as psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis.
