Implantable device to lower blood pressure

German research team  published their first results of the preclinical testing  with an interesting device.

The so called „multichannel cuff electrode“ is a small device made of several electrodes which is to be implanted  around the vagal nerve.
Its mechanism of action is delivery of electrical signals to the brain. The electrode device  stimulates the specific baroreceptor fibers in the vagal nerve and thus influences blood pressure. The research team plans to test the device on larger animals now.
